Flat-Taxer Rand Paul Won't Touch the Mortgage Deduction
U.S. Sen. Rand Paul, the Kentucky Republican who’s vying for his party’s presidential nomination, says the U.S. tax code is so corrupt and complicated that it’s no longer fixable. His plan? Eliminate it. Destroy it. Replace the whole entire thing with a flat tax with no deductions whatsoever. None! Well, except the deductions for dependents—and for mortgages.
In an opinion piece published by The Wall Street Journal, Paul talks of saving the middle class with a tax code that eliminates the payroll taxes while “turbocharging the economy”:
